Lisa Ramirez, Ed.D – migrant child farm laborer; she was kicked out of high school for punching the principal. Lisa later earned her doctorate in education. She served as a top leader at the U.S. Department of Education for many years.

 

Esteban G. Burchard, MD, MPH – raised in the tough SF Mission barrio, he studied at Stanford Medical School and Harvard, was a National Health Advisor to President Obama and is a highly-acclaimed research scientist at UCSF.

 

Katherine Flores, MD – grew up as a migrant child farm laborer; attended college and became an MD, a medical professor and Director of the Latino Center for Medical Education and Research at UCSF Fresno.

Enrique Diaz – came to the U.S. undocumented age 2, by age 6 he was a full time migrant child farm worker. Enrique earned his computer engineering degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he was recruited and hired as a Research and Development Scientist for Apple.

 

Anna M. Caballero – born to a family of copper miners, Anna is a California State Senator who graduated from UC San Diego and earned her law degree at UCLA Law School.

 

Fernando S. Mendoza, MD, MPH – son of an immigrant farm worker, he studied at Stanford and Harvard, became a pediatrician, professor of pediatrics and Associate Dean of Diversity at Stanford Medical School.

 

Blanca E. Rubio – as an undocumented child she was twice deported; today she is a U.S. citizen and elected leader in the California State Assembly.

 

Tony Cárdenas – His immigrant parents didn’t have the opportunity to attend school. Tony and all of his siblings attended college and earned advanced degrees. Tony became an engineer, community leader and U.S. Congressman.

 

Ramon Resa, MD – abandoned age 2, he grew up a migrant child farm laborer. Ramon made it into UC Santa Cruz, earned his medical degree at UCI. He returned to the Central Valley where he’s a  pediatrician for kids like he once was.

 

Raul Ruiz, MD, MPH, MPP – grew up a migrant child farm worker; attended UCLA, then Harvard and became an ER doctor. He is now an elected leader in the U.S. Congress.
