Told They Can’t is the original documentary film featuring the inspiring stories of ten high-profile professionals of color who, while growing up, experienced homelessness, hunger, poverty, neglect and abuse, exacerbated by society’s cruel indifference toward children like they were. Many worked full-time as migrant child farmworkers with their earnings going to help the family survive. None of it stopped them.
Today they’re engineers, doctors, medical researchers, educators, and leaders elected to government office. Their achievements, in defiance of all odds and adversity, is a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Their examples of turning poverty and hardship into personal and professional success is a reminder of what is indeed possible for all children including the children of immigrant and refugee families.
